I couldn't resist.

Took me a little under four hours to create this, and it took 1 hour, 38
minutes, and 56 seconds to render. (Would have been faster, but I sorta
forgot to set render priority to "high"... heh =)

This uses isosurfaces, radiosity, and focal blur (obviously). I'm still not
entirely happy with the shape of the cells, and I couldn't get them to
"glow" like the Brazil image does.
